The Academy and Conference in 2024 will discuss how human rights action plans can act as an effective tool for advancing accountability in local governance. Following three intensive days of online working groups and exchanges (=the Academy), the event will culminate in a high-level closing Conference open to the public, where the results are presented.

  • Contribute your practical know-how to develop, adopt, and implement human rights action plans at the local level.
  • Share solutions that assist local governments in meeting their human rights obligations and commitments.
  • Engage with peers to elaborate concrete guidelines for local governments on how to promote accountability in a transparent and effective way through action plans.

We welcome participation from representatives of local governments (policy-making, public administration), city networks, and intermediaries, such as human rights professionals and practitioners working in all relevant areas (think tanks, academia, civil society, and international or regional organisations).

This interactive event is co-organized with UNESCO, UN-Habitat, OHCHR, ALGA of UCLG-Africa, the Austrian Federal Minsitry of International and European Affairs, the Province of Styria, the City of Graz and the University of Graz.
