ACTION – Taking Local Action Plans Against Racism to the next level

Posted on in: Categories Events

As its title “ACTION” implies, our new project at the International Centre for the Promotion of Human Rights at the Local and Regional Levels aims at increasing the usability and dissemination of anti-racism strategies and tools on the local level in a determined, goal-oriented manner.

The EU-funded project officially started in February 2023 and is set to achieve its goals within the project time frame of 2 years. The project is carried out together with our project partners the City of Graz, the City of Heidelberg as well as the European Coalition of Cities against Racism (ECCAR).

At the Project Kickoff on 28 February and 1 March 2023, the project partners came together as the project consortium for the first time and set the foundation for the project. Besides agreements on the project contents and management, a significant result of the Kickoff meeting was the definition of the ACTION Steering Board as well as the selection of potential partner cities for the project’s research- and capacity building efforts.

The overall objective of ACTION is to support European public authorities at the local level to improve the implementation of policies and measures against racism and racial discrimination by facilitating the development and issuing of respective 10-Point Plans of Action (10-PPA’s).

The Kickoff Meeting was the first milestone of the ACTION project. Now, we are looking forward to a promising and insightful project period dedicated to the update of the existing Toolkit for 10-PPA’s as well as its dissemination.

About ACTION

The ACTION Project aims at elaborating local action plans against racism. It is linked to the existing Toolkit for Equality (TKE), which was published by ECCAR in 2016 within the framework of a previously EU-funded project, and included the establishment of a 10-Point Plan of Action (10-PPA) for counteracting racism on the local level. It aims at supporting the implementation of local policies to successfully counteract racism and racial discrimination.

Within the framework of ACTION, the Toolkit chapter concerning 10-PPAs is going to be updated with regard to current challenges as well as made accessible to all members in their national languages. Furthermore, European cities are going to be supported by means of direct consulting, webinars, and online courses focusing on local 10-PPA.

ACTION is in line with the EU Anti-racism Action Plan 2020 – 2025, which is particularly promoted by the current Swedish presidency at the national levels.
